In today's world, success and prosperity are often measured by wealth, power, and social status. Society encourages a self-focused mentality—accumulate more, climb the ladder, and chase after personal gain. But as believers, we must ask: What does success and prosperity look like in God's eyes?
I remember vividly, as a young Christian just starting nursing school, I was drawn to TV preachers who were very convincing in their presentation that God wanted us to be rich and have a lot of material possessions. They seemed very sincere (and maybe many were), as they encouraged listeners ( and I was listening) to give to their ministry, and in turn they would see an out pouring of manifold blessing of many material possessions ……this was over 33 years ago. I had nothing to give away but I admit I was intrigued. I wanted to learn more about prosperity and success especially when this doctor said he was poor and starving while attending medical school, and he was encouraged to make a sacrificial giving which he did. He reported that soon after he came into money, a new car, and many other material blessings.

However, scripture clarifies that true success is not just about material gain but a life aligned with God's will. Galatians 6:7 warns us not to be deceived, for we will reap what we sow. Chasing after fleshly success leads to spiritual death. However, if we sow into the Spirit, we will reap life and blessings.
Thankfully, I had good bible teachers and mentors who guided me through the scriptures and helped me to understand the biblical principles of success and prosperity. Let me be clear: I do believe and practice giving; the scriptures are very clear about all the principles of giving, and importantly, GOD loves a cheerful giver, not one who gives in response to pressure. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 states, "Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop." You must decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully."
In this post, I am happy to share with you the principles and laws that I have drawn from the word of GOD that has allowed me to experience true success and prosperity in a balanced way.
What Does True Success and Prosperity Look Like?

God's instructions for success are outlined clearly in Joshua 1:8: "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success." God instructed Joshua—who was leading Israel into the Promised Land—that success would come through obedience to His Word. Yes, its very clear …it all begins with obedience to the word of God.
Let's break this down into key principles.
1. Speak the Word of God Continually
"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth…"
Success begins with the Word of God. Our words shape our reality. If we constantly declare negativity, fear, or doubt, we give power to those things. But when we speak God's promises, we activate faith. – You therefore should always be speaking the word of GOD, in essence speaking with purpose, speaking with understanding and speaking it often. It is important to declare the word of GOD in your own hearing and for others to hear…..when you hear the word of GOD your faith is activated, faith will be stirred up inside of you….and when you speak it…then the faith is released to take godly actions that will result in your prosperity and success.
Take note of these key scriptures:
Mark 11:23 – What we say and believe in faith will come to pass.
Proverbs 18:21 – Life and death are in the power of the tongue.
Isaiah 44:26 – God performs the words of His servants.
Isaiah 55:11- The word of God accomplishes the purpose it sets out to achieve.

2. Meditate on the Word Day and Night
"Thou shalt meditate therein day and night…" Meditation is more than reading—it is deeply thinking about God's Word, memorizing it, and allowing it to transform our minds. In essence, it's a mental discipline that strengthens us to walk in obedience, and walking in obedience brings favor, blessings, and success to the child of God.
In obedience to the scripture, you are to meditate on God's words day and night. This means you are to make it a frequent practice to spend time reading and pausing to allow for understanding and to gain a deeper connection with what the Holy Spirit is saying to you through HIS word. That is success, and when you know God's will and walk in it, then it will become evident to you that you are prospering and flourishing.
No matter the circumstances you face—even in the most challenging situations—your commitment to spending focused time in God's Word will lead to you gaining greater knowledge and wisdom. Through obedience to His teachings, you will gain the insight needed to navigate life's trials, ultimately experiencing success and prosperity in all that you do.
Take note of these key scriptures:
Colossians 3:16 – Let the Word dwell in you richly.
Psalms 1:2-3 – Those who meditate on God's Word are like trees planted by
water, always bearing fruit and prospering in all they do.
Acts 17:11 – The Bereans studied the Scriptures daily to verify the truth.
Psalm 119:148 – Meditate on the promises of God, they will come to pass.
3. Obey the Word

"That thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein…"
Hearing God's Word is not enough. We must be doers of the Word (James 1:22-25). When we live according to God's instructions, our success is guaranteed because we are walking in divine alignment. Take note of the emphasis here, only when you keep the word of GOD from departing from your lips, and only when you meditate on it day and night and only when you do the according to what is written THEN your way will be prosperous, and we will have good success.
Just hearing the word only you may forget, but if you do what it says over and over until it becomes a fabric of your everyday life, you will be blessed in all that you do. That is God's standard for success and prosperity. Are you applying the word of God to your life daily?
Matthew 6:33 – Seek first God's kingdom, and everything else will follow.
Romans 14:17 – The kingdom of God is not material wealth but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
4. God's Promise: Prosperity and Good Success
"For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success." The Bible makes a distinction—not all success is good success. Many people achieve worldly success but live in spiritual emptiness. True success is when our accomplishments align with God's will. Even in captivity, God's people flourished (Jeremiah 29:5-10). True prosperity is not just financial gain but spiritual growth, favor, peace, and fulfillment in Christ. Psalm 84:11 assures us that God will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. If you truly desire success and prosperity, including wealth and material blessings, it starts with obeying His Word. When you align your life with His commands, you will experience the kind of success that brings peace, fulfillment, and eternal reward.

Beware of Worldly Success Traps
Satan offered Jesus worldly power, but Jesus rejected it (Matthew 4). The enemy tempts people with material wealth, status, and self-glorification, but these things lead to destruction. Be alert, the enemy offers counterfeit success. He had power, influence, and riches but these were gained outside of obedience to God. Jesus rebuked him by declaring that true life comes from God's Word, not material things (Luke 12:15). Similarly, influencers today can lead people toward or away from God. Influence itself isn't bad, but if it isn't advancing God's Kingdom, it's not good success (James 1:14-16).
Principles for Good Success and Prosperity – God's Way
1. Meditate on God's Word – Make time daily to study, reflect, and apply
Scripture.(Joshua 1:8)
2. Live a Christlike Life – Display godly character and bear good fruit
3. Put God's Kingdom First – Seek God's righteousness, and all blessings will
follow (Matthew 6:33).
4. Be a Good Steward – Use your resources wisely to glorify God

Final Thoughts
Today is a good time to pause and reflect. What is your take on success and prosperity? Does it line up with God's divine blueprint? If not, come into agreement with the word of God and redefine success and prosperity according to God's standards. True success is walking in obedience, growing spiritually, and living a life that glorifies God. Wealth and status may come, but the greatest prosperity is a flourishing soul. I encourage you to choose to seek God's way, knowing that His abundant blessings will follow you!
