Picture this: you have been invited to a grand banquet, and as you walk in, you see a beautifully decorated hall with elaborate yet tasteful décor. In the middle of the hall, there is a long table set with the finest delicacies and treats, prepared just for you. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and filled with love. Now, imagine this feast is set, not in a peaceful environment with family and friends who love you, but rather in the same place where your enemies are nearby and watching. Yes, right in the presence of those who doubted you, those who tried to tear you down, those who envied you and who wished for your downfall. Yet, here you are, dining in abundance, untouched, anointed, and victorious. YUP! This is the table the Lord has prepared for you.

Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” This verse isn’t a poetic line or an analogy; it’s a divine reality for those who trust in God. In this post, I invite you to join me as we do a deep dive into this promise and uncover the beauty, power, and spiritual truth behind the table that the Lord has prepared for His children.
Who Prepares the Table?
The Lord Himself. The good Shepherd (Psalm 23:1), the conquering Lion (Revelation 5:5), the mighty warrior (Zechariah 14:3), the sovereign King (Isaiah 9:6). This table is not something you or I have set; it is His work, His preparation, His divine arrangement.

Why is it important that God prepares the table?
So that we are not overtaken in pride – We cannot boast in our own strength, but rather in His goodness and faithfulness (1 Peter 5:6).
It is a declaration of victory – Even in adversity, God remains faithful to provide for all our needs, He remains faithful to protect us even when surrounded by enemies, and gives us peace (Deuteronomy 20:4).
It proves His sovereignty – The enemy can only watch; he has no power over us, nor is he able to thwart the plans of GOD (Revelation 4:11). It's like saying … in your face, devil.
Blessings don’t wait for perfect conditions – God provides in the storm, not just after it (Isaiah 43:2).
Divine promotion brings no shame – When God lifts you up, no one can bring you down (Psalm 75:6-7).

What Is on the Table?
This is not just a meal—it’s a divine feast, a spiritual spread laden with everything we need. Imagine a lavish banquet filled with:
The Word of God – Our sustenance and strength (Hebrews 4:12, John 1:1).
Grace and Peace – Multiplied over our lives (2 Peter 1:2).
Joy and Forgiveness – That renews and restores us (Nehemiah 8:10, Ephesians 4:32).
Wisdom and Understanding – To guide us in every step (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Trust and Faith – That anchors us in Him (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Power and Righteousness – Clothing us in strength (Isaiah 32:17).
Love and Self-discipline – Helping us walk in holiness (2 Timothy 1:7).
Goodness and Mercy – Chasing after us daily (Psalm 23:6).
However, this feast is not just spiritual—it yields real, tangible blessings in our lives. We also experience healing, deliverance, restored relationships, peace of mind, financial provision, growth, and faithful service to God. Every need is met because, as stated in Psalm 23:1 ……The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing!

Where Is the Table Prepared?
Are you ready? Let this sink in! The table with this sumptuous feast is not hidden in some quiet, safe place. It is prepared in the presence of our enemies.
God doesn’t need to remove the enemy to bless you. He blesses you right in front of them! They can see it, but they can’t stop it. He is demonstrating His faithfulness. His strength and grace, showing the world that you are His and that His favor is upon you. Just as in the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve were blessed while the enemy lurked, so too are we blessed in the sight of those who oppose us.
What Happens at the Table?
This is where transformation happens! At God’s table, we find strength, renewal, and nourishment for our souls. It is where:
We sit in peace – Knowing that He is our protector.
We feast without fear – For He is our shield.
We grow stronger – Through His Word and Spirit.
We delight in His presence – Rejoicing in His goodness.
This divine banquet is an invitation to experience a deep relationship with God. It is a call to trust Him completely, for provision and protection and to acknowledge His sovereignty. When we accept His invitation and take our place at the table, we declare, “Lord, I trust You completely, in You Lord I live and move and have my being.

Anointing at the Table: A Mark of Honor and Divine Calling
One of the first things God does at this table is anoint our heads with oil. In biblical times, anointing was never a casual act, rather it was a beautiful and sacred activity. It signified honor, blessing, consecration, and divine commissioning. From Aaron and his sons being anointed as priests (Exodus 29:7, Leviticus 8:12) to kings like Saul, David, and Jehu being set apart for leadership (1 Samuel 10:1, 1 Samuel 16:13, 2 Samuel 5:3, 2 Kings 9:6), anointing was always a mark of divine selection.
So, when God anoints us at His table, He is doing three powerful things: proclaiming our identity, endorsing us as His own, and empowering us for His work.
Divine Proclamation – 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we are chosen, royal, and holy. Just as kings and priests were visibly set apart through anointing, we too are anointed with the Holy Spirit. Revelation 1:6 declares that we are kings and priests unto God, reigning in His authority. This feast symbolizes an announcement, a declaration, a decree by God himself that you are His child, loved and favored.
Divine Endorsement – God’s anointing is His public declaration that we belong to Him. We are His treasured possession (Deuteronomy 32:10, Zechariah 2:8). As Ephesians 1:1 and Acts 9:15 reveal, God calls and endorses whom He chooses, just as He did with Paul. This symbolizes the authority that you possess as a representative of the kingdom to act as an heir of salvation.
Divine Empowerment – Anointing doesn’t just give us identity; it gives us power. Acts 1:8 tells us that when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, we receive power to be His witnesses. Isaiah 61:1 declares that we are anointed to preach the Gospel, heal the brokenhearted, and set captives free.
The enemy sees this anointing, and he knows what it means—you are unstoppable in Christ!

Overflowing Cups: The Abundance of God’s Blessings
The second thing that happens at the table is overflow. Our cup doesn’t just fill to the brim, it runs over! This overflow signifies more than enough, more than we can contain, and more than we could ever ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
God doesn’t just give us what we need; He gives more. Why? Because He knows the trials we will face. He knows the battles ahead, the moments of despair, the times when we feel like giving up. And so, He fills us with an abundance of peace, joy, faith, and provision so that we are never lacking in any good thing (Psalm 34:9-10).
Proverbs 10:22 says, “The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” This richness is not just about material wealth—it is an overflow of love, mercy, grace, wisdom, strength, and faith. Our cup overflows so that we can pour into others.
The Table is Not a Place of Complacency
While the Lord prepares this table for us, it is not a place to sit indefinitely and become complacent and lazy. We are pilgrims, not permanent residents of comfort. The table is a place of refreshing, renewal, and empowerment, but once we are filled, we must go forth and fulfill our calling.

We must continue to:
Watch and pray (Matthew 26:41) – The enemy is watching, waiting for an opportunity to accuse us (Revelation 12:10).
Exercise wisdom – We must not become so comfortable that we forget our mission.
Go and bring others to the table – We are anointed to proclaim the Gospel, to heal, to deliver, and to set captives free (Isaiah 61:1).
The table is a reminder that God is our provider. Whether we are facing sickness, disappointment, financial struggles, or spiritual battles, we can come to the table and feast on His promises. He gives us all that we need, even in the presence of our enemies.
A Challenge to You Today
Are you feasting at the Lord’s table? Are you allowing Him to anoint you, endorse you, and empower you? Or are you hesitating, holding back, or allowing the enemy to distract you?

Come to the table! Feast on His goodness, let Him anoint your head with oil, and allow Him to overflow your cup with every spiritual and physical blessing. The enemy will see it, but he cannot stop it, because what God has prepared for you, no one can take away.
Let your cup remain under the hand of God, always ready to receive the outpouring of God’s goodness, mercies, and grace. Let Him satisfy you, sustain you, and empower you to do the work He has purposed for you.
